BAE-HAL Eyes $40 Million Turnover

The joint venture between the global major BAE Systems and the Indian state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) called BAE-HAL Software Limited has recently finalized software projects to the tune of $40 million. BAE-HAL Software aims to deliver these projects by 2020.

The joint venture between BAE Systems of the UK and HAL was inked in 1993 and it has developed software for Aerospace & Defense (A&D) companies. BAE-HAL Software Limited has delivered its expertise for real-time projects, simulation, engineering services and software testing from mostly Indian firms. Initially, there were more overseas projects but now the joint venture has achieved an even ratio due to increased focus on the growing local market.

BAE-HAL focuses on the software development for defence industries and aerospace companies, worldwide with major presence in the UK, Germany, and France in Europe.

R.N. Prasad, group manager of BAE-HAL Software said that the joint has major software projects from the three Indian Defence forces and has developed avionics and flight simulators for the MiG 21 aircrafts besides an inter-locking safety software system for the Indian Navy. He added that more opportunities will arise since their total offshore engineering spending is expected to grow to $225 billion by 2020.

The international clients of the Bangalore-based BAE-HAL Software includes Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Bombardier, British Airways and Thales, among others and the local firms include Tata Motors, state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Earlier, BAE-HAL had also entered into a strategic alliance with the U.S-based Datastream Systems Inc, to market the latter’s asset lifecycle management solutions to the defence, aerospace, and aviation sectors in the Indian sub-continent.
