State-owned BEML Limited has announced the establishment of its Aerospace Manufacturing Division which will make a foray into the aerospace industry business.
V.R.S. Natarajan, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML Ltd said the creation of the Aerospace Division is the logical outcome after years of developing certain products which are used in the aerospace domain, like aircraft-pulling tractors, fire tenders and aircraft weapon loaders. Henceforth, the BEML efforts on engineering services for the development of ground support equipment and ground handling equipment as well as aerospace manufacturing will also be addressed, he added.
Currently, BEML is involved on various projects with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and with the Indian Air Force. BEML has met the Indian Air Force’s requirement for ground support equipment and ground handling equipment. In the next two years, BEML has set a target of $20 million from aerospace manufacturing and aerospace project developments.
BEML has an already established Technology Division which deals with Aerospace, Defence and Auto and Mining projects besides other related fields. This Division is a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of BEML established in April 2006 and has an expert team of around 180 highly skilled engineers who offer advanced engineering solutions.
BEML Ltd has been a successful defence public sector undertaking having several tie-ups with local and international firms for aeronautical development and engineering services besides offset related projects. Some of the firms include Bumar of Poland (Air Defence Systems), Eurocopter of France (Offset projects) and ARBEIT of Brazil (Engineering services).
