In a landmark achievement in terms of infrastructure facility, India’s biggest private shipyard, ABG Shipyard Limited has initiated the work on installing a shiplift at its Dahej facility. This will be the largest shiplift facility in India and will be 47 metres wide.

ABG Shipyard plans to invest $52 million and will be getting help from Germany’s Rolls Royce Marine Electrical Systems that markets shiplifts with brand name Syncrolift. The shiplift facility will enable shipbuilding in a year and will have the capability to take 30,000 tonnes.

Shiplifting is a modern structural platform where ships are built and launched into the water as opposed to dry-docks. This helps in speeding up the process of ship-building.

ABG Shipyard’s facility in Dahej has orders of 39 bulk carriers, 20 anchor handling tugs and two jack-up rigs, most of these for export to countries like The Netherlands, Norway, Finland and Egypt.

ABG is focusing seriously at the Dahej facility where bulk carriers and tugs are being constructed. It will also create a 200 metre long jetty. ABG plans to take the total investment in Dahej shipyard to $240 million in the next three to five years.
