Taking over as Minister of State for Defence for the second time, Mallipudi Mangapati Pallam Raju has announced that modernization of Armed Forces and improving the working conditions of the soldiers will be his priorities.
Mr. Raju said Defence Research will be his another priority area. Shri Raju said his department will strive to attract the best talents in the field of Defence Research. The Minister said he would like to stick to the timeframe to meet the requirements of the Armed Forces. On private sector participation in Defence Production, the Minister said the new offset policy will expedite the process.
Born on August 31, 1962 at Pitampuram, in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Raju did his schooling from Hyderabad Public School, Hyderabad. A graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam, he earned his masters degree in Business Administration from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA. He served for sometime in Philadelphia and Boston in the USA and in Oslo, Norway in the computers and Information Technology sector.
Mr. Raju was first elected to the Ninth Lok Sabha in 1989 from Kakinada Lok Sabha Constituency and was the youngest member of the House. He was re-elected in 2004 and 2009. As a member of Lok Sabha, he served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology during 2004-2006.
He is widely travelled having visited Austria, Germany, Norway, Singapore, UK, South Korea, Mongolia, China, Japan, UAE, Lebanon and the USA.
