Taking a tough stand against corruption, the Defence Minister A.K Antony has directed on June 5 that all acquisition cases in the pipeline in respect of seven companies figuring in the FIR registered by India’s main investigating agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Kolkata against the former Director General of Ordnance Factory Board, Sudipto Ghosh be ‘put on hold’ till further orders.

The Companies are :

(i)    M/s Israeli Military Industries, Israel;
(ii)   M/s Singapore Technology, Singapore;
(iii)  M/s HYT Engg;
(iv)   M/s T.S. Kishan and Co. Pvt Ltd., New Delhi;
(v)    M/s R.K. Machine Tools;
(vi)   M/s BVT, Poland;
(vii)  M/s Media Architects Pte. Ltd., Singapore

Although no charge-sheet has yet been filed by the CBI, concrete evidence such as transfer of money to personal accounts have been detected.

Indian Defence Ministry chief spokesman Sitanshu Kar said the Government views both receiving and giving bribes as an offence and as such there cannot be any lenient view on this account. The matter will be further reviewed as and when the CBI provides more evidence. The Ministry of Defence desires to tackle issues of corruption in procurement cases ‘head-on’, added Kar.
