India’s automotive major TVS Group has entered into the aerospace sector with its companies Lucas-TVS and Sundaram Fasteners Limited (SFL) diversifying their expertise. Lucas-TVS, supplier of auto electrical systems and components, has entered into a licensing partnership with an aerospace component vendor in the U.S and the UK to source the aerospace parts. These will be supplied to the domestic aerospace industry.
TVS officials said that they are value-adding to the components and it has also become a cost-saving exercise for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Some components like starter generators have already been supplied to HAL who was earlier importing them.
In addition, Airbus is also looking at another TVS firm called SFL for the supply of general aerospace fasteners for their aircrafts. Representatives of Airbus through their sourcing wing, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS N.V) recently completed their evaluation and audit of Sundram Fasteners products and manufacturing locations in Tamil Nadu. SFL is now expecting a request for quotation.
